German Seekhna: The First Steps
Learning a new language can be daunting, but relating it to a language you already know makes the process much easier. For Urdu speakers, German (Deutsch) shares many structural similarities, especially when it comes to verb placement and sentence structure.
1. The Alphabet and Pronunciation
German pronunciation is phonetic. Unlike English, you read words exactly as they are written. For example:
- W sounds like the Urdu 'V' (و) - Wasser (Water) sounds like "Vasser".
- V sounds like 'F' (ف) - Vater (Father) sounds like "Fater".
- J sounds like 'Y' (ی) - Ja (Yes) sounds like "Ya".
2. Basic Greetings (روزمرہ کی بات چیت)
- Hallo: Hello / سلام
- Guten Morgen: Good morning / صبح بخیر
- Danke: Thank you / شکریہ
- Wie geht es Ihnen?: How are you? / آپ کیسے ہیں؟
3. Why Grammar Matters
German uses cases (Nominativ, Akkusativ, Dativ) similar to how Urdu changes word endings depending on their role in the sentence. Understanding 'der, die, das' (the three genders for 'The') is your first major milestone.
